Sharjah Ruler Chairs Meeting To Discuss Maritime Academy's Progress And Future Plans
His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, led a meeting at the Sharjah Maritime Academy (SMA) in Khorfakkan. He praised the academy's achievements, stating it now stands alongside top maritime academies globally. The success was attributed to the collective efforts of the Board of Trustees, staff, and students.
The meeting addressed several agenda items, including periodic reports and academic programme development. It also focused on expanding cooperation with other institutions. The Board approved the budget for the 2025-2026 academic year and regulations for postgraduate studies in maritime specialisations. This aims to enhance higher maritime education in Sharjah.
Sheikh Dr Sultan highlighted his personal involvement in monitoring developments in Khorfakkan across various sectors. He noted that these efforts are reflected in student achievements and academic excellence. The academy's progress is supported by an ideal learning environment and students' dedication to acquiring knowledge.
The Board reviewed a report by Dr Hashim Abdullah bin Sarhan Al Zaabi, Chancellor of SMA. The report provided an overview of the academy’s performance and operations during the past period. It also highlighted major academic, administrative, and research achievements from the last academic year and outlined future development plans.
The meeting discussed international accreditations obtained by the academy’s programmes. Emphasis was placed on developing curricula and practical training according to global best practices. This aims to benefit students, graduates, and the labour market. Agreements with specialised international maritime academies were also addressed to enhance collaboration.
Reports from various committees were reviewed during the session. These included the Academic Committee, Finance Committee, Compliance and Internal Audit Committee, and Financial Resource Development Committee. Recommendations from each committee were discussed, leading to necessary decisions being made.
