Sharjah Ruler Leads Executive Committee Meeting To Enhance Higher Education And Research Initiatives
His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi chaired a meeting of the Permanent Executive Committee of the Sharjah Council for Higher Education and Scientific Research (SCHESR) on Monday. The meeting took place at the Council’s headquarters in University City, with several key figures in attendance, including H.H. Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed bin Sultan Al Qasimi and H.H. Sheikha Hoor bint Sultan Al Qasimi.
The Ruler of Sharjah welcomed attendees, highlighting the Council's vital role in enhancing higher education across the Emirate. This aligns with Sharjah's vision to provide top-tier education, knowledge, and scientific research. The meeting focused on improving universities and colleges by fostering collaboration and advancing academic initiatives.
During the session, there was a significant emphasis on developing specialised academic programmes in the arts throughout the Emirate. The aim is to unify efforts under a dedicated academic arts university that offers comprehensive disciplines and state-of-the-art facilities for nurturing talent in artistic fields.
H.H. Sheikh Dr Sultan approved both the organisational structure of SCHESR and its budget for 2026. These approvals are intended to support the Council’s primary mandates effectively. Additionally, ongoing efforts to enhance academic programmes at higher education institutions were reviewed to ensure they meet international standards.
The committee also discussed ways to improve advanced research systems at higher education institutions within Sharjah. This involves aligning with scientific requirements and research governance frameworks to boost research outcomes and outputs significantly.
Attendees included Dr Mansour bin Nassar, Chairman of the Legal Department of Sharjah; Dr Muhadditha Al Hashemi, Chairperson of the Sharjah Education Academy; Dr Aisha Bu Khater Al Shamsi, Secretary-General of SCHESR; Professor Esameldin Agamy, Chancellor of the University of Sharjah; Professor Hamid Majoul Al Nuaimi, advisor to the President of the University of Sharjah; and Dr Mohammed Yousef Baniyas, Advisor for Higher Education Affairs at the Sharjah Private Education Authority.
The meeting underscored continuous development efforts for academic programmes in line with global standards. This initiative aims to elevate educational quality across various disciplines within Sharjah’s higher education landscape.
