Sharjah's Urban Renewal: Enhancing Resident Comfort Through Modernisation Of Older Districts

H.H. Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, has reiterated Sharjah's dedication to enhancing the quality of life for its residents. The Sharjah City Municipality is tasked with upgrading older city areas. This includes road improvements, sewage network development, tree planting, and creating family parks. Additionally, the municipality will manage abandoned properties to improve these spaces.

The government of Sharjah will cover all costs related to these developments, including updating shop signs. H.H. Sheikh Dr Sultan highlighted that the municipality is currently focusing on Al Qadisiyah after completing work in Al Ghwair and Independence Square in Yarmouk district. The modernisation efforts in Al Ghwair involved road paving, sewage system upgrades, and organising neglected properties.

Sharjah Prioritises Resident Comfort and Urban Renewal

During a recent call on the "Direct Line" programme on Sharjah Radio and Television, H.H. Sheikh Dr Sultan discussed the municipal projects led by Sharjah Municipality: "The Sharjah City Municipality has been assigned the responsibility of executing a comprehensive modernisation of the older residential neighborhoods." The administration funds these projects entirely.

Efforts are underway to enhance Yarmouk area infrastructure, including replacing shop signs with new designs that reflect elegance. Improvements have also been made to Independence Square and renovations at Imam Al Nawawi Mosque. The focus remains on ensuring residents' comfort through continuous upgrades.

The Ruler of Sharjah stressed ongoing road infrastructure upgrades due to wear from time and rain. Rainwater drainage systems are being installed to protect land and buildings from damage. In Martyrs' Square, water accumulation issues have been resolved despite its lower elevation compared to University City.

Al Qadisiyah is currently undergoing enhancements due to many abandoned structures there. Plans include road paving, tree planting, and community park creation for development alongside efforts in Al Jazat area. These initiatives aim to ensure a safe living environment for all residents of Sharjah.

The Role of Trees in Urban Well-being

H.H. Sheikh Dr Sultan concluded by encouraging residents to plant trees at home for shade benefits: "We offer trees at no cost... We produce five million saplings... supply municipalities with mature trees ready for immediate planting." Trees absorb carbon dioxide while providing oxygen essential for breathing.

Trees also offer shade and emit positive electrons that promote psychological well-being by fostering calmness and improved manners in individuals. Spending time under trees provides a natural alternative to electronic devices emitting positive electrons.
