Sharjah Literary Agency Engages Latin America To Promote Arab Literature At Rio Book Fair
The Sharjah Literary Agency recently engaged with key Latin American publishers and cultural institutions at the 2025 Rio International Book Fair, held from June 13 to 22. This event, coinciding with Rio's status as UNESCO World Book Capital, provided a platform to explore translating Arab literature into Portuguese, expand rights sales, and form strategic partnerships to enhance Arab literature's reach in emerging markets.
During discussions with Brazilian publishers, the Agency explored reciprocal translation and co-publishing opportunities. They also addressed managing Arab authors' rights in Latin America. These talks laid the foundation for future collaborations aimed at boosting Arab creativity's presence in South America.

This initiative aligns with Sharjah's broader strategy to foster cultural exchange between the Arab world and Latin America. By consolidating its presence on international platforms, Sharjah aims to facilitate direct dialogue between publishing stakeholders from both regions.
The Sharjah Literary Agency is an initiative of the Sharjah Book Authority (SBA). It strives to empower Arab writers by opening new markets and strengthening Arab literary rights globally. The Agency is dedicated to representing Arab creativity and expanding its international influence.
Tamer Said, Director of the Sharjah Literary Agency, remarked on their participation: "Our participation in the Rio International Book Fair was a significant step toward building sustainable partnerships with Latin American publishing institutions. We witnessed a genuine interest in Arab literature from Brazilian publishers, opening up a promising opportunity to expand translation and distribution circles and introduce the voice of the Arab author to new readers and diverse cultural landscapes. At the Sharjah Literary Agency, we believe that building literary bridges is at the heart of our work, and investing in these key cultural events will make a long-lasting impact on Arab publishing globally."
The fair served as Latin America's premier book industry event this year. It allowed the Agency to connect with major publishing players across the continent. These engagements focused on creating opportunities for translating Arabic works into Portuguese and expanding rights sales.
The Agency remains committed to fostering sustainable cultural and knowledge exchanges between different peoples. By participating in such events, they aim to build lasting connections that benefit both Arab authors and global readers.
