Sharjah Press Club Launches Ithmar Programme To Empower Youth Through Podcasting
The Sharjah Press Club (SPC) has launched the seventh edition of "Ithmar," a youth media training programme. This year, the focus is on podcasting as a creative outlet for young voices. The programme targets children and teenagers aged 10 to 15 who are interested in media communication and audio storytelling.
Alia Al Suwaidi, Director of the Sharjah Government Media Bureau, highlighted that Ithmar is part of broader efforts by SGMB to nurture emerging talent. The initiative introduces young people to platforms that encourage self-expression and skill development within a supportive setting. Al Suwaidi emphasised that this edition builds on past successes, with a strong focus on audio media as a space for positive influence.

Involving children in podcast production offers them practical experience in content creation. This approach allows them to produce material that reflects their realities and resonates with their communities. The first week of training includes voice and presentation skills such as microphone confidence, tone control, pronunciation clarity, and storytelling.
Participants also practice news reading, podcast introductions, and learn the differences between live recording and edited audio. Sessions incorporate exercises on using positive language and engaging listeners through sound. As the week progresses, they delve into interview techniques, active listening, and on-camera presence.
The programme culminates in a full podcast simulation where participants apply what they've learned. By the end of the training, they are expected to understand how to develop an idea from concept to final recording. They also learn teamwork by producing a complete podcast episode together.
SPC continues to evolve the "Ithmar" programme to align with young people's interests. It aims to equip them with tools necessary for shaping the future of media both locally and internationally.
