Sharjah Police Chief Opens Four Modern Libraries To Enhance Inmate Education And Rehabilitation

Major General Abdullah Mubarak bin Amer, Commander-in-Chief of Sharjah Police, has opened four new libraries at the Correctional and Rehabilitation Centre. This project, in collaboration with Knowledge Without Borders, seeks to encourage reading and learning among inmates. The goal is to support intellectual and educational development within a rehabilitative setting.

The event was attended by notable figures such as Mohammed Khalaf, Director-General of Sharjah Broadcasting Authority and Member of the Sharjah Media Council, Rashid Al Kous, Executive Director of the Emirates Publishers Association, along with senior officials and police representatives.

Sharjah Police Launches Modern Prison Libraries

During his visit, Major General bin Amer toured the libraries, which house a variety of literary works and popular books that cater to inmates' preferences. He also checked out the women's section and visited Dar Al Aman Nursery. His observations highlighted the initiative's commitment to promoting a reading culture.

He stressed that this effort demonstrates Sharjah Police and Knowledge Without Borders’ commitment to enhancing rehabilitation through education, skill development, and psychological support. The libraries are seen as a step towards achieving these goals.

Colonel Abdullah Alai Al Naqbi, Director of the Correctional and Rehabilitation Centre, noted that the library's design was informed by specialised research. The aim was to create an inviting reading environment distinct from traditional libraries. This innovative setup encourages inmates to engage with books, improving their skills and broadening their knowledge base.

Major General bin Amer praised the Correctional and Rehabilitation Centre for its comprehensive rehabilitation programmes. These programmes focus on intellectual growth, skill enhancement, and future opportunities for inmates. He remarked that these libraries align with the UAE’s broader vision of empowering individuals and ensuring their rights while aiding their reintegration into society.
