Sharjah NYU SPS Executive Publishing Programme Begins Tomorrow With Global Insights And Workshops

The Sharjah NYU SPS Executive Publishing Programme is set to begin at the American University of Sharjah. This event, organised by the Sharjah Book Authority (SBA) in collaboration with the Centre for Publishing, Writing, and Media at NYU School of Professional Studies, marks its first occurrence outside the United States. The programme aims to enhance the skills of local and regional publishing leaders through workshops on content creation, digital marketing, artificial intelligence, and global industry trends.

Andrea Chambers, Associate Dean of NYU SPS Centre for Publishing, Writing, and Media, will open the programme alongside Christie Henry from Princeton University Press. They will introduce participants to the event's objectives. Henry will then lead a session on independent presses' impact, using her expertise from Princeton University Press.

Following the opening remarks, discussions will focus on strategies for engaging global audiences. A case study on Princeton University Press’s expansion into China will be presented. Dan Hayter from Glassboxx will conduct a workshop on using websites to boost readership and revenue. The day concludes with insights from Michael Reynolds of Europa Editions and Inez Munsch of Abrams & Chronicle Books on acquiring globally appealing titles and designing covers for international markets.

On Tuesday, innovation and global outreach take centre stage. Christie Henry returns to discuss unconventional market expansion through case studies. Samantha Schnee from Words Without Borders will highlight translation rights' growing importance. Participants can engage in exercises to identify translation opportunities while Naveen Kishore and Sunandini Banerjee of Seagull Books demonstrate how translation and design drive growth.

Wednesday shifts focus to global market dynamics with HarperCollins’ Chantal Restivo-Alessi outlining strategies for international growth and consumer trends. Carlo Carrenho from Alpine Global Collective will analyse audiobooks' rapid rise. Restivo-Alessi returns to discuss digital sales operations before participants test their negotiation skills in a workshop led by Kelly Gallagher from Ingram Content Group.

The final day highlights innovation in publishing. Joana Jamil from Meta opens with digital marketing strategies for book promotion. Chantal Restivo-Alessi explores AI's implications for publishers once more, followed by Marine Debray from HarperCollins mapping global innovation trends. Keith Riegert of Ulysses Press demonstrates practical AI applications for publishers, ending with team-based exercises applying learned tools.

This comprehensive programme offers valuable insights into current publishing trends and challenges. It provides participants with practical knowledge to navigate the evolving landscape effectively.
