Sharjah Narrative Forum's 20th Edition Unveiled In Tunis With Cultural Insights

The Republic of Tunisia witnessed the commencement of the 20th Sharjah Narrative Forum, themed "The New Short Story... Transformations in Form and Structure". The event, held under the patronage of H.H. Dr. Sheikh Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, spans two days and features discussions on four critical topics by over 50 Tunisian novelists, short story writers, academics, and critics.

Abdullah Al Owais highlighted the significance of cultural collaboration in his speech. He expressed the Sharjah Department of Culture's satisfaction with renewing fraternal ties and continuing joint cultural efforts with Tunisia's Ministry of Cultural Affairs. This partnership has led to numerous cultural and literary activities, forums, and festivals across various Tunisian cities from Tunis to Kairouan.

Sharjah Forum Begins in Tunis

Al Owais emphasised that this cooperation underscores the importance of Arab cultural dialogue. It aims to enhance the presence of Arab writers, authors, poets, and critics in both Tunisian and broader Arab cultural scenes. He noted that the leadership in both countries is committed to strengthening these fraternal relations.

The opening ceremony took place at Ennejma Ezzahra Palace in Sidi Bou Said, Tunis. Attendees included Abdullah bin Muhammad Al Owais; Dr. Iman Ahmed Al Salami, UAE Ambassador to Tunisia; Muhammad Ibrahim Al Qasiri; Khaled Kashir; along with intellectuals, university professors, and narrative writing enthusiasts.

An exhibition accompanied the ceremony featuring publications from the Sharjah Department of Culture. These included Sharjah Cultural Magazine, Arrafid Magazine, Al Qawafi Magazine, Al Masrah Magazine, Al Heera Magazine from Sharjah, and various literary works. The exhibition attracted a significant public turnout eager to purchase these publications.

Significance of the Forum

Khaled Kashir remarked on the importance of the Sharjah Narrative Forum in Tunisia as a prominent cultural event within the Arab world. He noted that its significance grows due to its focus on story writing and its organisation within the framework of cooperation between Tunisia and the UAE.

The forum's discussions are set to delve into critical analysis approaches over two days. This gathering aims to foster a deeper understanding and appreciation for short story transformations in form and structure among participants.
