Sharjah Museums Authority Highlights Accessibility And Cultural Exchange Initiatives At ITB Berlin 2025
The Sharjah Museums Authority (SMA) recently wrapped up its participation in ITB Berlin 2025, a prominent travel trade event. Held from 4th to 6th March, the event was organised under the Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority (SCTDA). SMA used this platform to showcase its latest initiatives focused on accessibility, cultural exchange, and educational programmes across Sharjah's museums.
During the event, SMA announced the addition of Al Qasimia School: The Museum of Education in Sharjah. This new museum is dedicated to highlighting both historical and modern advancements in education within the emirate. This initiative aligns with SMA's ongoing commitment to preserving and promoting Sharjah’s rich cultural heritage.

SMA emphasised its dedication to making museums accessible for all visitors, including those with disabilities. They are implementing modern technologies like interactive screens, online booking systems, electronic payment options, and augmented reality (AR) at the Resistance Monument. These innovations aim to enhance visitor engagement and learning experiences.
Visitors at ITB Berlin had the opportunity to explore virtual tours of museums and exhibitions through smart devices provided on-site. This digital experience offered an immersive glimpse into Sharjah’s rich history and artistic heritage, allowing attendees to engage with the emirate's culture remotely.
The SAWA Museum Studies programme was another highlight at the event. It offers an immersive educational experience in museum practices. SMA also revealed plans to strengthen cultural and professional exchanges between museum professionals and students from different regions, fostering deeper connections.
An interactive box introduced by SMA aimed to boost visitor engagement by providing insights into self-guided workshops, year-round events, and exhibitions available at its 16 museums. These activities encourage direct interaction with exhibits, enriching understanding of history, art, and culture while enhancing both local and global cultural landscapes.
Advancing Cultural Diplomacy
Through its participation in ITB Berlin 2025, SMA reinforced its role in advancing cultural diplomacy. The authority aims to build international partnerships while implementing innovative solutions that enhance visitor experiences across its museums. This approach underscores SMA's commitment to fostering global cultural connections.
SMA's efforts at ITB Berlin highlight their dedication to promoting Sharjah’s cultural heritage on an international stage. By integrating technology and focusing on accessibility, they strive to make cultural experiences more inclusive for all visitors while strengthening ties between cultures worldwide.
