Exploring Architectural Elegance: Sharjah Museums Authority Unveils New Photography Exhibition
The Sharjah Museums Authority (SMA) has proudly unveiled its newest exhibition, "The Art of Architectural Ornamentations in the Emirate of Sharjah - A Photography Exhibition," taking place at the historically rich Bait Al Naboodah. The exhibition, inaugurated by Aisha Rashid Deemas, Director General of SMA, in the presence of the exhibition's talented participants, opened its doors on February 17, 2024, and is set to captivate visitors for six months.
Bait Al Naboodah was selected for its historical significance and stunning architectural design, featuring wooden columns with Roman influences and designs from India brought by Obaid Al Naboodah. The architecture is further adorned with Islamic art-inspired decorations, including floral motifs, geometric shapes, and calligraphy, adding to its cultural and aesthetic appeal.

Deemas emphasized that the exhibition is a testament to Sharjah's commitment to preserving its cultural and architectural heritage. It reflects the emirate's creative essence through distinctive architectural styles that merge history with modernity, evident in iconic structures across Sharjah.
The exhibition showcases the work of three photographers chosen from 85 contestants through a competition held by SMA between September and November of the previous year. A panel from the Emirates Photography Society selected ten works for display, each offering a unique perspective on Islamic art and Sharjah's contemporary vibrancy.
Among the featured photographs are images capturing the entrance to Bait Al Naboodah Majlis with traditional Emirati door designs and heritage floral decorations, a graffiti mural on Bank Street, and the intricate architectural decorations of Sharjah Mosque. The Central Souk, known for its beautiful domes and distinctive blue-colored walls, and University City Hall during the Sharjah Light Festival are also highlighted.
To complement the exhibition, SMA has organized workshops including a "Basic Principles of Photography" workshop in collaboration with the Emirates Photography Society and photographer Tahani Al-Arsali. A "Traditional Ornamentations" workshop is also available, offering participants an immersive experience into the architectural beauty of Bait Al Naboodah and enriching their appreciation of Sharjah's cultural legacy.
