Sharjah Municipality Initiates Two Major Irrigation Projects To Enhance Green Spaces And Agricultural Initiatives

Sharjah Municipality has launched two key projects to boost irrigation water supply for green spaces, following directives from H.H. Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi. These initiatives are part of the municipality's commitment to efficient infrastructure development, focusing on treated water pumping stations crucial for current and future agricultural areas as per annual plans.

The municipality's Director-General, Obaid Saeed Al Tunaiji, highlighted the ongoing efforts in infrastructure projects, particularly irrigation water pumping stations. These projects aim to provide a consistent and sustainable irrigation source, supporting green spaces and broader agricultural goals. This initiative aligns with Sharjah's comprehensive development strategy and commitment to sustainable solutions for irrigation needs.

Irrigation Projects Launched for Green Spaces in Sharjah

Khalifa bin Hadda Al Suwaidi, Director of Technical Services at Sharjah City Municipality, confirmed the successful completion of two projects by the technical team. The projects were executed efficiently, meeting high standards within five months and at a lower cost than expected. The first project increased the Al Qarain station's capacity from 30,000 to 100,000 cubic meters per day to meet urban development demands.

The second project involved constructing a new pumping station in Al-Budaiya with a daily capacity of 36,000 cubic meters or 9.5 million gallons of treated water. A new pipeline was extended from Al-Budaiya to Al-Musnad over 22.5 km, enhancing irrigation water provision within infrastructure projects. The station includes a storage unit with a 2,000-cubic-meter capacity and high-efficiency pumps.

The timely completion of these projects was achieved through the support of various government departments and ministries. Their assistance in obtaining necessary permits greatly facilitated the work team's progress. The collaboration between the General Directorate of the Amiri Guard, Sharjah Police, Sharjah Electricity, Water and Gas Authority, Roads and Transport Authority, National Oil Corporation, and Planning and Survey Department significantly contributed to the project's success.

Jaafar Ali Jaafar, Director of the Sanitation Department, stressed the importance of enhancing the efficiency of both Al Qarain and Al-Badi’ stations. These projects are vital for supplying treated irrigation water for future agricultural initiatives and advancing sustainable development. They also offer innovative solutions to support the agricultural sector.

The municipality's efforts reflect its dedication to sustainable development in Sharjah by improving infrastructure for green spaces and agriculture. These projects not only address current needs but also prepare for future demands in urban areas.
