Sharjah to Host 11th Marathon in Support of Arthritis Patients with Rich Community Activities

The Friends of Arthritis Patients, a health-supporting association under the Health Promotion Department of the Supreme Council for Family Affairs in Sharjah, has announced plans to host its eleventh marathon on 25th February 2024. This event marks a significant collaboration with various esteemed entities including the Sharjah Police General Command, the Sharjah Sports Council, and the Sharjah International Marine Sports Club, among others. The announcement was made during a press conference in Aljada, attended by key figures such as Wahida Abdelaziz, Chairperson of the Friends of Arthritis Patients.

The marathon is set to feature a wide array of health, sports, and recreational activities, alongside championships and marine activities. It aims to encourage community members to engage in physical activity to support individuals living with arthritis. This initiative aligns with the vision of H.H. Sheikha Jawaher bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, Chairperson of the Supreme Council for Family Affairs in Sharjah, emphasizing the importance of a healthy and sustainable life for society members.

11th Sharjah Marathon Aids Arthritis Patients

For the first time, the marathon will introduce a 21-kilometre track, reflecting the association's commitment to offering diverse challenges for participants. This addition underscores the event's role in promoting health awareness and establishing preventive measures against chronic diseases. A virtual scientific day will precede the marathon, featuring specialists discussing the benefits of movement and physical activity.

Promotion efforts for the marathon have extended across Sharjah, including its central and eastern regions, in collaboration with Sharjah Municipality and other local entities. The event will take place along the Al Mamzar Corniche and includes five stages catering to different age groups and physical abilities. These range from a 1 km walk or run open to all ages, to a 21 km run for participants aged 16 and above.

The involvement of various sponsors and supporters underscores the community-wide effort to make this event a success. By fostering an environment that encourages physical activity, the Friends of Arthritis Patients aims to enhance public awareness about arthritis and promote healthy living practices among UAE residents.
