Sheikha Bodour Launches Inaugural Sharjah Literature Festival Celebrating Emirati Creativity

The inaugural Sharjah Literature Festival, led by Sheikha Bodour bint Sultan Al Qasimi, Chairperson of the Sharjah Book Authority, highlights Emirati literary talent. Under the patronage of H.H. Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, the festival's theme is ‘Emirati Tales Inspire the Future.’ It aims to position the UAE as a key cultural and literary centre.

Sheikha Bodour Al Qasimi expressed her pride in launching this cultural event in Sharjah, known for its rich cultural heritage. She stated, "The Sharjah Literature Festival is a celebration of our shared stories and a platform to nurture Emirati creativity. By connecting the past with the present, this festival elevates the transformative power of literature to inspire progress and cultural dialogue. These stories will resonate not only within the UAE but also across the world, building bridges of understanding and imagination."

The festival offers nine core themes covering various aspects of literature and culture. It serves as a dynamic platform for exchanging ideas among local literary leaders. The event supports Emirati publishers and strengthens the UAE’s publishing sector through diverse activities.

Running until 21st January, the festival features numerous events inspired by its central theme. A book fair is one of its highlights, showcasing works from 41 Emirati publishers over five days. This provides an opportunity for attendees to explore new literary creations.

Visitors can immerse themselves in local poetry and melodies through engaging sessions and discussions. The festival offers 20 cultural programs, eight workshops, and five daily musical performances. Additionally, there are five shopping outlets and dining options from over 10 restaurants.

The opening ceremony featured a blend of visual and musical arts celebrating words and culture. Emarati artist Abdullah Alastad performed live Arabic calligraphy on stage, accompanied by poet Zigzag Ghanem's captivating poetry verses.
