Sharjah Literature Festival To Celebrate Emirati Literary Creativity From January 17 To 21, 2025
The Sharjah Literature Festival, set for 17 to 21 January 2025, is a significant cultural event in the UAE. Under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi and Sheikha Bodour bint Sultan Al Qasimi, this festival is organised by the Emirates Publishers Association and the Sharjah Book Authority. It aims to celebrate Emirati literature and foster cultural dialogue.
Rashid Al Kous, Executive Director of the Emirates Publishers Association, expressed pride in this cultural initiative. The festival highlights Emirati literary works and achievements of local publishers. "We are delighted to announce the launch of the first edition of the Sharjah Literature Festival," he stated, emphasising its role in enhancing Sharjah's cultural landscape.

Al Kous further noted that the event supports innovation in publishing and provides a platform for exchanging ideas among experts. It also addresses challenges facing Emirati publishers while exploring future opportunities. The festival underscores Sharjah’s commitment to promoting books and reading as pillars of intellectual growth.
Ahmed bin Rakkad Al Ameri, CEO of the Sharjah Book Authority, highlighted the festival's alignment with His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi's vision for fostering knowledge and creativity. "The elevation of Emirati literature in reading, writing, and publishing embodies this vision," he said, stressing authors' roles in shaping communities.
Al Ameri added that the festival enriches Sharjah's cultural agenda by uniting writers, readers, and publishers. It honours both historical and contemporary achievements of Emirati authors, reinforcing the UAE’s status as a global creative hub.
Diverse Activities for All Visitors
The festival will take place near University City Hall in Sharjah, offering a diverse programme. Visitors can enjoy educational workshops on Arabic calligraphy, storytelling, and creative arts. Interactive sessions with authors and thought leaders are also planned alongside poetry evenings and musical performances.
Cultural shows will add charm to the festival atmosphere. Attendees can explore recreational activities and culinary experiences with local dishes from food trucks. A book exhibition will feature recent publications by Emirati publishers available for purchase.
