Sharjah Book Authority Highlights Cultural Exchange And Literary Initiatives At CIBF 2025

The Sharjah Book Authority (SBA) is actively engaging in cultural exchange and promoting global knowledge-sharing at the 56th Cairo International Book Fair (CIBF). This event, held at the Egypt International Exhibition Centre, continues until 5th February. SBA's involvement underscores its commitment to fostering collaboration and strengthening ties between Arab nations and the international community.

During a visit to SBA's pavilion, Dr. Ahmed Fouad Hanno, Egypt’s Minister of Culture, received two special editions of "Egyptian Memories" by His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi. These books are dedicated to President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and Prime Minister Dr. Mostafa Madbouly, sharing personal experiences from His Highness’s time in Egypt.

SBA Showcases Literary Vision at CIBF 2025

SBA's pavilion also welcomed Dr. Abdullah bin Nasser Al Harrasi, Oman’s Minister of Information. Discussions focused on enhancing cultural and media collaboration between Oman and Sharjah to achieve shared cultural goals. The pavilion attracted key figures and publishing leaders worldwide, showcasing services offered by the Sharjah Publishing City Free Zone.

SBA highlighted its extensive range of programmes like the Sharjah International Book Fair and the Sharjah Children’s Reading Festival. These initiatives aim to advance the publishing industry in the region. The authority also promotes literary prizes that encourage excellence in authorship, publishing, and translation.

The fair features a comprehensive programme including panel discussions and workshops that highlight Sharjah’s cultural contributions. The pavilion displays key literary works from the UAE creative scene and facilitates international cooperation through meetings with publishers and global cultural institutions.

Ahmed bin Rakkad Al Ameri, CEO of SBA, stated that their participation reflects Sharjah’s dedication to enhancing cultural connections globally. He remarked, "Thanks to the vision of His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi... we are committed to fostering cultural dialogue with nations worldwide."

Promoting Literary Excellence

Al Ameri added that their presence at CIBF aims to showcase the UAE’s vibrant literary landscape while supporting authors and publishers on an international stage. He emphasised their commitment to promoting reading as a pillar for societal growth.

He concluded by expressing belief in culture as a foundation for sustainable development. Their participation aims to foster collaborations with publishers and intellectuals, highlighting books' transformative power in building understanding among nations.

Dr. Ahmed Fouad Hanno praised Sharjah's participation at CIBF for enriching the event with its extensive collection of books and resources. He noted how this strengthens historical ties between the UAE, Arab world, and Egypt while recognising Sharjah as a cultural beacon for Arabs.

SBA's delegation includes prominent cultural entities from Sharjah such as Kalimat Group, Al Qasimi Publications, Department of Culture among others. This year’s CIBF celebrates Oman as Guest of Honour featuring various events like panel discussions, workshops alongside book signings with notable authors globally.

The fair sees participation from publishers across Egypt, Arab region along with international representatives making it a significant platform for literary exchange globally.
