Sharjah Chamber Launches Pakistan Business Council To Enhance Economic Cooperation

The Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) has inaugurated the Pakistan Business Council in Sharjah. This move aims to enhance economic cooperation between the emirate's business community and Pakistan. The initiative seeks to boost trade, investment exchanges, and leverage mutual opportunities for growth.

Abdallah Sultan Al Owais, Chairman of SCCI, emphasised that the new council is a significant addition to the network of business councils under SCCI. He stated, "These councils offer ideal platforms for companies to connect, collaborate, and form win-win partnerships that benefit everyone involved." The council aligns with SCCI’s strategy to expand business councils and foster cross-border partnerships.

The value of non-oil foreign trade between the UAE and Pakistan reached AED25.7 billion in 2022, a 30 percent increase from AED19.8 billion in 2021. This growth highlights the commitment of both countries' leaderships to deepen bilateral relations. Additionally, the UAE plans a US$10 billion investment in Pakistan's key economic sectors.

Al Owais explained that the council is built on a solid foundation and aims to nurture sustainable partnerships. It will elevate bilateral business relations and meet both sides' aspirations. He added that it provides a gateway for Pakistani business leaders to engage more deeply with Sharjah’s business community.

The new council offers Pakistani entrepreneurs a chance to promote their businesses across the UAE and expand into regional markets. It will facilitate joint ventures including conferences, trade shows, and delegate exchanges. The council will also represent Pakistani businesses' interests, ensuring they leverage diverse services offered by SCCI.

Faisal Niaz Tirmizi, Ambassador of Pakistan in the UAE, praised SCCI’s efforts in launching the council. He noted that these efforts would enhance employment opportunities and drive innovation across various sectors, adding value to both economies.

Support from Business Leaders

Syed Muhammad Tahir highlighted the appreciation of the Pakistani business community for SCCI's efforts in creating advanced economic opportunities for investors. He pointed out the council's role in bolstering private sector engagement within Sharjah's economy and opening new avenues for future collaboration between both nations' business communities.

The inauguration ceremony at SCCI’s headquarters was attended by key figures including Faisal Niaz Tirmizi; Waleed Abdul Rahman Bukhatir, Second Vice Chairman of SCCI; Mohammad Ahmed Amin Al Awadi, Director-General of SCCI; Abdulaziz Al Shamsi, Assistant Director-General for Communication and Business Sector at SCCI; Fatema Khalifa Al Muqarrab, Director of International Relations Department at SCCI; Syed Muhammad Tahir; and representatives from Sharjah's Pakistani business community.

Al Owais stressed that Sharjah is known for its conducive business environment due to strategic perks, top-notch logistics, supportive legislation, and robust infrastructure. The new council will help Pakistani entrepreneurs explore different experiences and launch new investment projects in Sharjah.

This initiative marks a significant step towards expanding economic cooperation between Sharjah and Pakistan. It aims to contribute to private sector growth while enhancing its role in comprehensive economic development.
