Sharjah Opens Registration For International Library Conference 2024
The Sharjah Book Authority (SBA) recently participated in the American Library Association (ALA) Annual Conference & Exhibition in San Diego, the largest library event globally. Representing Arab culture, SBA connected cultural entities, information management institutions, and library professionals worldwide with Sharjah and the UAE.
During the event, SBA announced that registration for the 11th edition of the Sharjah International Library Conference is now open. This conference will be held alongside the 43rd Sharjah International Book Fair at Sharjah Expo Centre from 9th to 10th November 2024. The hybrid format allows both in-person and virtual attendance, providing access to a global network of librarians and digitally registered exhibitors.

The conference will feature presentations, discussions, and networking opportunities with international experts. It will include bilingual sessions in Arabic and English, supported by interpretation services to cater to diverse audiences. This initiative aims to foster collaboration between Emirati and Arab libraries and knowledge institutions worldwide.
Ahmed bin Rakkad Al Ameri, CEO of SBA, highlighted their dedication to advancing libraries as essential components of knowledge-based societies. He stated, "In line with the directives and vision of His Highness, the SBA is spearheading international efforts to underscore the central role of libraries in building a knowledge-based society, and enhance libraries’ contribution to the inclusive and sustainable development paths."
Al Ameri also mentioned that under Sheikha Bodour Al Qasimi’s leadership, SBA aims to expand international collaboration opportunities through this conference. He added that their participation in key international events like the ALA Conference helps achieve these objectives.
Global Advancements in Library Management

She said, "SPL is keen on keeping up with the rapid advancements taking place within the libraries and information management sector... underscoring its central role in the Arab region as a premier destination for professionals in this field."
The Sharjah International Library Conference will gather librarians, authors, publishers, exhibitors, teachers, and VIPs from around the world. They will discuss trends, legislations, and policies shaping the future of libraries.
Key figures from SBA engaged in productive discussions with ALA representatives on collaborative initiatives. These discussions focused on library management strategies for future information access and lifelong learning.
This year’s conference aims to broaden participation mechanisms and maximise opportunities for attendees. By choosing the ALA Annual Conference & Exhibition to announce registration for this event, SBA underscores its commitment to fostering global collaboration.
