Sharjah International Airport Expansion Project Reviewed By H.H. Sheikh Sultan With Key Developments Highlighted

H.H. Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Crown Prince and Deputy Ruler of Sharjah, along with H.H. Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah, recently reviewed the progress of the expansion project at Sharjah International Airport. The meeting took place at the Ruler’s Office and focused on future plans for the airport.

The expansion of the passenger terminal is a key part of this development initiative. It aims to increase capacity to handle 20 million passengers annually. This ambitious project involves an investment of AED2.4 billion and is expected to be completed by the end of 2027.

The Sharjah Airport Authority is implementing various projects to boost logistics operations. These efforts include upgrading infrastructure, buildings, and systems to meet environmental sustainability standards. A primary focus is on reducing carbon emissions while improving service quality and operational efficiency.

During a recent presentation, H.H. Sheikh Sultan was briefed on ongoing construction projects at the airport. The update covered supply phases, design stage packages, and projects currently under tendering. Significant ongoing projects were highlighted alongside prospective development strategies for airport facilities.

The review also included plans for constructing an additional runway and designing a new passenger terminal. Developing a road network to connect the new terminal with existing facilities is part of this strategy aimed at increasing airport capacity.

Several completed projects were showcased during the briefing. These include the project and public services building, new aircraft parking stands, road network design, and vehicle parking areas. All these projects were completed on schedule.

Ambitious Strategy for Regional Recognition

The Authority's strategy aims to elevate Sharjah International Airport's status among top regional airports known for travel experience and customer service. The goal is to secure a position among the top five regional airports renowned for these attributes.

The meeting was attended by Sheikh Khalid bin Issam Al Qasimi, Chairman of the Department of Civil Aviation; Ali Salem Al Madfa, Chairman of Sharjah International Airport Authority; along with several project engineers.
