Sharjah Institute For Heritage Champions Emirati Identity And Culture

The Sharjah Institute for Heritage (SIH) is actively organising lectures and events to promote educational and heritage awareness. Dr. Abdulaziz A Musallam, Chairman of SIH, stated, "The rich cultural heritage in the UAE is linked to a close relationship with the authenticity of society and the values of its individuals."

Aisha Ghabish, Director of the Department of Events and Activities at SIH, describes the campaign as a comprehensive heritage programme. Organised during July to coincide with the summer break, it offers various lectures and events. This initiative aligns with SIH's goals of preserving Emirati heritage and identity, fostering understanding and harmony, and cultivating pride in local values.

The first part of the campaign took place on 3rd and 4th July, focusing on the UAE's maritime heritage. Events included a discussion session led by Emirati heritage researcher Juma Bin Thalith about marine environment characteristics and associated customs. An exhibition showcasing maritime heritage complemented this session.

Traditional songs were performed by the Bin Majid Society for Folk Arts and Rowing, with children's participation enhancing the event's vibrancy. The programme also featured popular games, workshops, storytelling sessions, pottery painting activities, and various competitions aimed at engaging participants in cultural learning.

The upcoming phase of the campaign is scheduled for 8th and 11th July. It will host workshops and lectures dedicated to raising awareness of Emirati heritage vocabulary. This initiative builds upon SIH's broader summer season of heritage awareness activities launched in mid-May.
