Sharjah And India Business Leaders Discuss Enhancing Trade And Investment Ties

The Indian Business and Professional Council, under the aegis of the Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI), recently convened an important business meeting aimed at enhancing cooperation and increasing trade and investment between Sharjah and India. This gathering, which took place during the Ramadan suhoor banquet at Sharjah’s Jazerat-al-alam, sought to explore new avenues for collaboration across various strategic economic sectors.

Key figures such as Dr. Khaled Omar Al Midfa, Chairman of Sharjah Media City (Shams), Ahmed Obaid Al Qaseer, CEO of the Sharjah Investment and Development Authority (Shurooq), Adel Al Ali, Group Chief Executive Officer of Air Arabia, and Abdul Aziz Al Shamsi, Assistant Director-General for Communication and Business Sector at SCCI, were in attendance. The meeting also welcomed Satish Kumar Sivan, Consul General of India in Dubai and the Northern Emirates; Jamal Saeed Buzangal, Director of the Media Department at SCCI; Lalu Samuel, Chairman of the Indian Business and Professional Council; along with prominent members of the Indian business community and leaders of major Indian companies operating in Sharjah.

The discussions focused on enhancing coordination between the two business communities and identifying investment opportunities in sectors such as energy, maritime industries, shipping services, ship agencies, commerce, food industries, tourism, real estate, and contracting. The meeting highlighted the importance of exchanging information on investment prospects and building sustainable partnerships to drive growth in trade exchanges and joint investments.

Abdul Aziz Al Shamsi emphasized the significance of such meetings in consolidating ties between the Sharjah and Indian business communities. He noted that these gatherings are crucial for addressing the needs of member companies affiliated with the Indian Business and Professional Council and align with broader efforts to boost economic and commercial cooperation with India.

Lalu Samuel pointed out that the meeting aimed to bring together leaders of Indian companies investing in Sharjah with their counterparts in the emirate to develop cooperative relations and explore further opportunities. He underscored the importance of creating communication bridges between Indian companies and economic prospects in Sharjah to foster sustainable collaborative ties.

With an estimated 17,500 Indian companies currently operating in Sharjah, this meeting marks a significant step towards strengthening bilateral trade and mutual investments. The Sharjah Chamber inaugurated the Indian Business and Professional Council in February 2023, highlighting its commitment to enhancing economic activities between Sharjah and India.
