She stated, "The first phase demonstrates the city's commitment to high-quality services and strong partnerships." The city is recognised as a leader in supporting people with disabilities, with plans for a future comprehensive complex to further this mission.

The new project features several key facilities, including an administration building and a library designed for students and researchers. These facilities offer an environment equipped with state-of-the-art inclusive and accessible resources and technologies.

Additionally, educational buildings for the Sharjah Autism Centre and Al Wafa School for Capacity Development are part of the complex. These buildings provide specialised educational and rehabilitation services for students with intellectual disabilities.

Future Expansion Plans

Mona Abdul Karim Al Yafei, SCHS Director-General, noted that the first phase spans 100,000 square metres of a 575,000-square-metre plot donated by the Ruler of Sharjah. The project addresses growing demand and incorporates future needs, aligning with international best practices in education and rehabilitation.

The second phase will add 14 buildings, including key facilities like a sports complex, a mosque, and a treatment centre. This expansion aims to further enhance the services provided by SCHS.

Funding Details

The total cost for construction and operational work in the first phase is approximately AED 173 million. The UAE President contributed AED 80 million, while the Bank of Sharjah provided AED 30 million. The city covered around AED 63 million for construction, consulting, and furnishing the buildings.

The complex also includes classrooms, life skills development rooms, treatment rooms, and open areas for play and outdoor activities catering to all ages and community groups. These facilities aim to provide a holistic environment conducive to learning and personal development.

This project underscores SCHS's dedication to providing high-quality services through strong partnerships. It reflects their ongoing commitment to supporting people with disabilities in Sharjah.
