Sharjah Celebrates Four Influential Figures In Mauritanian Literature At Cultural Forum

The Mauritanian capital, Nouakchott, recently hosted a significant cultural event under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah. This occasion was part of the 23rd Sharjah Cultural Honouring Forum, organised by the Sharjah Department of Culture in collaboration with the Mauritanian Ministry of Culture, Arts, Communication and Relations with Parliament.

Four notable figures in Mauritanian literature were celebrated for their contributions to cultural enrichment. These honourees included poet Mohamed Fall Abdel Latif, linguistics academic Dr Yahya Al Hashemi, language researcher Dr Mohamedou Ameen, and poet Mohamed Al Hafiz Ould Ahmedou. Their recognition underscores the forum's commitment to acknowledging those who have significantly influenced contemporary Arab culture.

Honouring Mauritanian Literary Figures in Sharjah

This event marked the fourth time the forum has been held in Mauritania. Over previous editions, it has honoured 12 Mauritanian creatives. The ceremony took place at Nouakchott's Conference Hall and was attended by Abdullah bin Mohammed Al Owais, Chairman of the Sharjah Department of Culture; El Houssein Ould Meddou, Minister of Culture; Mohammed Ibrahim Al Qaseer, Director of Cultural Affairs; and other dignitaries. A large audience comprising intellectuals, academics, writers, and families of the honourees also attended.

Abdullah Al Owais emphasised the importance of ongoing cultural cooperation between Sharjah and Mauritania. He stated, "We are pleased to meet today at this distinguished cultural event, which continues the journey of cooperation between the Sharjah Department of Culture and the Ministry of Culture, Arts, Communication and Relations with Parliament. This partnership has led to numerous cultural activities that support Arab culture and reinforce the role of thought and creativity in our Arab societies."

El Houssein Ould Meddou expressed gratitude towards His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi for his dedication to Arabic language and literature. He remarked, "I am honoured to be with you today at this distinguished cultural gathering... I am pleased to extend my heartfelt thanks and appreciation to His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi... who has dedicated his efforts... to supporting the cause of culture and intellectuals throughout our Arab world."

The honourees conveyed their appreciation for being recognised at such a prestigious forum. They viewed this acknowledgment as a badge of pride that celebrates their cultural journeys. They noted that the forum exemplifies a civilised approach to honouring Arab intellectuals while reinforcing Sharjah’s commitment to supporting creativity across various fields.
