Sharjah has been praised by international publishers at the 15th International Publishers Conference as a central hub for knowledge and culture. This event is seen as a gathering place where the publishing industry not only shares expertise and forms business connections but also reaffirms the human values embedded in literature.

Mohamed Fadl, Foreign Rights Director at Egypt’s Aser Al-Kotob Publishing, highlighted the conference's consistent growth. He noted its significant role in facilitating numerous international publishing agreements. This was his eighth time attending, underscoring the event's importance in the global publishing landscape.

Sharjah: A Hub for Global Publishing

Nadine Bakhous from Lebanon’s Al Boumah Publishing attended for the first time. Specialising in children's books, she found it an excellent chance to connect with international colleagues and assess global interest in Arabic literature. The event provided her with valuable insights into the worldwide market for her niche.

Saudi publisher Abdulaziz Al-Mutairi of Jusoor Publishing described this conference as unparalleled globally. It attracts publishing houses from nations often absent from major fairs like those in Beijing, Frankfurt, or London, offering a unique platform for diverse cultural exchange.

Fatima Al-Khatib, founder of Sidra Publishing and board member of the Emirates Publishers Association, emphasised Sharjah's support for local publishers. This backing enables them to secure rights and translations of international titles across various languages, enhancing their global reach.

Khalid Mahmood from Pakistan’s Jamhoori Publications highlighted the rich exchange of ideas and cultural dialogue at the conference. He described it as "a fertile ground for cooperation and inspiration," showcasing its role in fostering collaboration among diverse cultures.

Reviving Faith in Publishing

Nazinigouba Kabore, founder of Les Editions Ecovie in Burkina Faso, shared how the conference renewed his belief in publishing after his son left their family business. He stated, "Sharjah proved that books remain powerful and relevant," reflecting on how the event restored his faith in the industry's future.

Hülya Balci from Türkiye’s Dogan Publishing praised the conference as a leading professional platform that encourages sustainable partnerships. Meanwhile, France’s Peter Thorne from Éditions Mirages et Lumières commended its openness and accessibility to all participants.

The conference continues to be a beacon for publishers worldwide, uniting them through shared beliefs in literature's enduring power to connect people across cultures. It remains a vital meeting point for creators, thinkers, and industry leaders who are committed to fostering understanding through books.
