Sharjah Ruler Launches New Sharjah Fashion Lab To Promote Local Designers
His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, has enacted an Emiri Decree to establish the Sharjah Fashion Lab. This new centre will have a legal identity and the authority to perform necessary legal actions to meet its goals and responsibilities.
The Sharjah Fashion Lab, or SFL, will be located in the Sharjah Creative Quarter within University City. The lab may also expand with branches in other emirate regions, as decided by the ruler. It will operate independently in financial and administrative matters while aligning with the Sharjah Creative Quarter.

The decree aims to create a platform that empowers local designers in the UAE and Gulf region, helping them access global markets. The lab will provide tools for meeting international manufacturing standards through specialised services, advanced machinery, and innovative technology.
The lab's objectives include fostering the UAE fashion industry's growth by offering consulting services, aiding model development, and supporting production processes that adhere to global standards. Expertise in fashion model development is a key focus area.
To achieve its objectives, the lab will specialise in developing fashion models and designs that meet global industry standards. It will prepare digital patterns and create 3D virtual representations of designs. Additionally, it will produce small-scale prototypes limited to 30 units.
The lab will offer consulting services on production and market entry strategies for both local and international markets. It will design programmes tailored for local manufacturers and designers while providing educational opportunities within the fashion sector.
The SFL will engage in commercial activities, participate in markets to showcase designs, and enter into contracts with local factories upon approval by the President. Collaboration with relevant authorities for technical support is also part of its mandate.
A director appointed by the head of the Sharjah Creative Quarter will oversee the lab's operations. This director will report directly to the head and be supported by adequate staff. The decision will specify their responsibilities and powers.
The decree includes legal provisions regarding financial resources, fee exemptions, executive decisions, enforcement, and publication matters. These provisions ensure smooth operation while maintaining compliance with established regulations.
