In a significant move towards enhancing the governance and service delivery within the Emirate of Sharjah, H.H. Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Crown Prince and Deputy Ruler of Sharjah and Chairman of the Sharjah Executive Council (SEC), presided over the latest SEC meeting. The session, conducted at the Sharjah Ruler’s Office on Tuesday, delved into a series of pivotal topics aimed at refining government work policies and fostering the development of government services. This initiative is in response to the rapid growth observed across various vital sectors in Sharjah.
The SEC unveiled a decision concerning the regulations governing the work of suburbs' councils within Sharjah. This comprehensive decision outlines all legal frameworks necessary for the operation of these councils, including their formation, membership terms and conditions, duration, submission processes, and the roles and responsibilities of council chairs, deputies, and members. Additionally, it encompasses various aspects related to council committees and their competencies.

Another critical decision made during the meeting was regarding the establishment of the Supreme Committee for the Sir Bu Nair Festival. This committee, set to operate under the Environment and Protected Areas Authority (EPAA), aims to elevate the festival's stature while promoting environmental conservation. Chaired by the EPAA Chairperson, the committee will include high-ranking officials from several key organizations within Sharjah, ensuring a collaborative effort towards a successful event.
Legislative Developments
The SEC also endorsed amendments proposed by the Sharjah Consultative Council to Law No (5) of 2014 concerning the reorganization of the Police Science Academy (PSA) in Sharjah. These amendments are now awaiting approval from H.H. Dr Sheikh Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, marking a significant step towards enhancing law enforcement education and training within the emirate.
Sharjah Airport's Remarkable Growth
The annual report of the Sharjah Airport Authority (SAA) for 2023 was another focal point of discussion. Highlighting a year of notable achievements, the report showcased an impressive increase in aircraft traffic and passenger numbers, reaching 15.3 million passengers. The expansion in destinations, weekly flights, and airline partnerships has notably boosted airport revenues by 19 percent.
Moreover, the SAA's commitment to innovation through artificial intelligence and team development initiatives has significantly contributed to its operational excellence. The report also emphasized the airport's success in receiving numerous accreditations and awards, underscoring its commitment to environmental sustainability and inclusivity for all passengers.
The decisions and discussions from this SEC meeting underscore Sharjah's proactive approach towards governance enhancement, cultural promotion, legislative refinement, and infrastructural development. These initiatives collectively contribute to Sharjah's vision of sustainable growth and excellence in service delivery across all sectors.
