Sharjah DGR And Goethe-Institut Explore Cultural And Educational Collaboration For German Language Education

Sheikh Fahim Al Qasimi, Chairman of the Department of Government Relations in Sharjah, recently engaged with a German delegation led by Dr. Claudia Römmelt, Director of the Goethe-Institut Gulf Region. Their discussions centred on boosting German language education in Sharjah's cultural institutions and planning joint initiatives in cinema and performing arts. This aligns with Sharjah's dedication to fostering cultural dialogue and embracing global experiences.

The meeting included Sheikh Majid bin Abdullah Al Qasimi, Director of DGR; Peter Barlow, Executive Director of Sharjah Performing Arts Academy; and Svea Lang, Head of Language and Deputy Director of the Goethe-Institut. They toured the House of Wisdom and the Sharjah Performing Arts Academy, highlighting key cultural sites in the emirate.

Cultural Collaboration Between Sharjah and Goethe-Institut

Dr. Claudia Römmelt's visit underscores her commitment to advancing cultural initiatives and German language programmes across the Gulf region. Her leadership focuses on enhancing cultural dialogue and knowledge exchange in countries like the UAE, Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, and Qatar. The Goethe-Institut plays a crucial role in promoting these educational and cultural exchanges.

Sheikh Fahim Al Qasimi praised Germany's rich cultural heritage, noting its significant contributions to modern civilisation through its philosophers, thinkers, and writers. He emphasised that collaborating with the Goethe-Institut supports Sharjah's vision of becoming a regional hub for knowledge, creativity, and culture while contributing to sustainable development.

This year marked a decade of collaboration between Sharjah Museums Authority and German institutions like Berlin State Museums and the Goethe-Institut through the "SAWA: 10 Years of Cultural Exchange in Museum Learning" conference. Such events highlight ongoing cultural exchanges between Sharjah and Germany.

Sharjah has also showcased its rich heritage at ITB Berlin, an international tourism exhibition that attracted considerable interest from German visitors. Additionally, initiatives like Culture without Borders have partnered with German institutions to develop cultural content and share experiences.

Building Bridges Through Education

The Goethe-Institut is instrumental in promoting German language education in the UAE by organising workshops and training sessions in literature and arts. These efforts aim to build intellectual bridges between cultures while strengthening mutual understanding through dialogue.

Dr. Römmelt’s visit reflects her dedication to fostering partnerships that enhance cultural understanding across regions. Her work ensures that educational programmes continue to thrive under her guidance throughout the Gulf region.

The collaboration between Sharjah and Germany has established a strong foundation for ongoing cultural exchange. By focusing on education and shared initiatives, both regions continue to benefit from enriched dialogues that promote mutual respect and understanding.
