Sharjah Department Of Culture Organises The 4th Arab Poetry Forum In Niger To Celebrate Arabic Literature

The 4th Arab Poetry Forum commenced in Niamey, Niger, under the patronage of H.H. Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah. Organised by the Cultural Affairs Department in Sharjah, in collaboration with the Niger Cultural Club, the event features ten poets. The forum aims to celebrate Arabic poetry and its cultural significance in Africa.

Amadou Ali Ibrahim, President of the Niger Cultural Club and General Coordinator of the Forum, opened the event with a speech. He expressed gratitude to Sharjah's Cultural Affairs Department for their efforts. Ibrahim highlighted that the forum showcases Arabic as a language of humanity and literature as a bridge for communication. He emphasised its role in celebrating diverse poets and enriching Niger's poetic landscape.

4th Arab Poetry Forum Held in Niger

Professor Koné Soualiho praised Sharjah's support during his speech. He described the forum as a bridge connecting African and Arab cultures through poetry. Soualiho noted that African poetry embodies beauty while Arabic represents conscience. This event fosters cultural exchange and strengthens ties between Africa and Sharjah.

Dr Mohamed Ag Mohamed shared insights on Arabic poetry's unifying power. He stated that it serves as a nation's memory, bringing together creative minds in Niger. The forum marks a significant step in Arab-African cooperation, offering opportunities for idea exchange and fostering brotherhood among participants.

This year's forum introduced a book signing ceremony for two publications by Professor Koné Soualiho and Dr Mohamed Ag Mohamed. This addition supports writing initiatives and honours educators who view education as a mission and writing as an art form. It celebrates their contributions to literature and thought.

The event was attended by notable figures including Professor Koné Soualiho, Dean at the Islamic University of Niger; Dr Mohamed Ag Mohamed, President of Arabic-Speaking Organisations in Niger; Professor Ali Tasaa, former Director at the Ministry of Higher Education; Ibrahim Atmouna from the Libyan Cultural Centre; and Dr Abdul Razaq Chosso from the Islamic University of Niger.

Ibrahim confirmed that each year, the forum highlights poetry's role in communication and expression. It reflects on how Arabic poetry has grown since its inception, showcasing its expanding presence in Niger. The initiative aims to revive Africa's deep-rooted heritage through this cultural celebration.

The forum stands as a testament to the enduring legacy of Arabic poetry within Africa. It continues to foster connections between diverse cultures while celebrating literary achievements across borders.
