Sharjah Department Of Culture Announces Ambitious Cultural Programme For 2025
Under the guidance of His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, the Sharjah Department of Culture has announced a comprehensive cultural programme for 2025. This initiative highlights Sharjah's dedication to fostering cultural and intellectual growth throughout the Arab world. The programme includes various events, such as the Sharjah Cultural Honouring Forum in Egypt and Jordan, which will celebrate influential Arab cultural figures.
The 28th Sharjah Award for Arab Creativity – First Work is scheduled for 14-15 April 2025. This event is recognised as a prestigious literary prize that provides a platform for emerging talents. Additionally, the 6th Tetouan Festival for Moroccan Poets will take place from 9 to 11 May, followed by the 12th Sharjah School Theatre Festival from 12 to 15 May. These events aim to nurture young theatrical talents through workshops and performances.

The Sharjah Department of Culture will also host poetry evenings and seminars at various literary councils throughout the year. These include the House of Poetry, Al Hirah Literary Council, Khorfakkan Literary Council, and Kalba Literary Council. Such initiatives are designed to promote a vibrant cultural scene in Sharjah.
On 9 April 2025, the Sharjah Cultural Honouring Forum will hold its 21st edition in Egypt. This event recognises distinguished Arab figures who have made significant contributions to Arab culture. Later in May, Amman, Jordan will host the forum's 22nd edition on 28 May.
The programme also features awards like the Sharjah Award for Arab Poetry Criticism and the Sharjah Award for Arab Visual Arts Criticism. The latter focuses on critical art discussions led by Arab writers and academics. It remains unique in its emphasis on contemporary Arab visual art inspired by heritage.
The Arabic Calligraphy Centre at Calligraphy Square will continue offering specialised workshops. These workshops aim to promote Arabic calligraphy as an essential part of cultural heritage. Such efforts underscore Sharjah’s commitment to preserving traditional arts while encouraging new artistic expressions.
Fostering Young Talents
The Dibba Al-Hisn Theatre Festival for Two-Person Plays is set from 23 to 27 May. This festival provides a platform for showcasing theatrical talent through two-person plays. Meanwhile, Abdullah bin Mohammed Al Owais emphasised how His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Muhammed Al Qasimi’s vision has transformed Sharjah into a centre of knowledge and culture.
Throughout the year, these diverse events reflect Sharjah's ongoing commitment to cultural enrichment across various fields. By hosting such programmes, the emirate continues to lead in promoting intellectual development within the region.
