Sharjah Consultative Council Endorses Recommendations To Enhance RTA Policies And Infrastructure
The Sharjah Consultative Council recently acknowledged the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) for its significant contributions to improving the emirate's transport infrastructure. During a meeting led by Dr. Abdullah Belhaif Al Nuaimi, the Council reviewed recommendations on RTA policies. Dr. Sultan Khamis Al Zaabi presented these points, which were initially discussed in a session on 27th October with Yousef Khamis Al Othmani and his team.
The Council highlighted the RTA's efforts in promoting sustainable development and enhancing road safety and infrastructure efficiency across Sharjah. A key recommendation was forming a joint coordination committee to boost collaboration among government bodies, improve project planning, and optimise resource use for timely, high-quality project delivery.

To address traffic congestion, the Council suggested updating legislation to improve road use and enhance safety for all users. Emphasising technology, they recommended adopting smart technologies and artificial intelligence to analyse traffic data, predict patterns, and ensure infrastructure aligns with population growth and urban expansion.
Another proposal involved rerouting heavy trucks from Emirates Road to Al Watan Road to alleviate congestion. Additionally, they suggested designating lanes for buses and priority vehicles that could be adapted for future transport systems.
The Council also advised upgrading road networks with advanced stormwater drainage systems. This would protect infrastructure, maintain smooth traffic flow, and strengthen climate resilience. These improvements are part of Sharjah’s commitment to sustainable urban development and enhancing quality of life through modern infrastructure.
Dr. Al Nuaimi expressed gratitude to the Public Utilities Committee and all members who contributed to the report. He acknowledged their collaborative efforts in advancing discussions on these crucial topics.
Mira Khalifa Al Muqarrab, Secretary-General, announced that the next session of the Council is scheduled for 8th December. This meeting will focus on reviewing policies of the Sharjah Planning and Survey Department.
