Sharjah Council Endorses Initiatives For Sustainable Fish Resources Development

The Sharjah Consultative Council (SCC) has underscored the importance of continuing efforts to enhance food security and preserve fish wealth in the Emirate of Sharjah. These initiatives align with the emirate's strategic goals for sustainable development and aim to bolster the fish sector's role in the local economy.

During its tenth meeting, chaired by Dr. Abdullah Belhaif Al Nuaimi, Chairman of the Council, SCC recommended the establishment of fishermen villages across the emirate. This initiative mirrors the village already set up in Al Hamriyah region and aims to meet the needs of fishermen in various areas.

Sharjah Boosts Fish Resources

The Council also approved the minutes of its previous ninth meeting and discussed recommendations regarding the policy of Sharjah Fish Resources Authority. The report, presented by Dr. Sultan Khamis Al Zaabi, rapporteur of the Committee for Preparing Draft Recommendations, highlighted discussions held on May 9.

SCC's recommendations emphasized creating well-studied development projects and future plans in fish farming and aquaculture. These efforts are crucial for enhancing food security and preserving fish wealth in Sharjah.

The Council stressed the importance of preparing legislation to regulate fishing practices in the emirate. This move aims to ensure sustainable fishing practices that align with Sharjah's broader environmental goals.

Encouraging Investment

SCC's interventions also called for encouraging both government and private sectors to invest in the fisheries industry. Such investments are expected to support the growth and sustainability of this vital sector.

Ali Ahmed Abu Ghazin, Member of SCC and Chairman of the Authority, along with other attendees, participated in discussions that support the Authority’s work in Sharjah. The Council then discussed and approved various recommendation clauses formulated by its members.

These initiatives reflect SCC's commitment to integrating with Sharjah's plans for sustainable development while addressing the increasing demand and needs of the local market.
