Sharjah International Conference On Mathematical Sciences Opens At University Of Sharjah
The Department of Mathematics at the College of Sciences, University of Sharjah, held the Second Sharjah International Conference on Mathematical Sciences over two days. The event brought together specialists from several countries to share research, highlight new mathematical developments, and explore how mathematics supports fast-growing scientific and technological areas worldwide.
The conference aimed to promote cooperation between researchers and institutions, and to support discussion in pure and applied mathematics. It also focused on mathematics education and mathematical tools for data science and machine learning. Participants used the programme as a platform to exchange methods, compare findings, and strengthen international academic links.

The conference opened under the patronage of H.H. Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed Al Qasimi, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah and President of the University of Sharjah. During the opening address, Professor Esameldin Agmi, Chancellor of the University of Sharjah, welcomed guests and underlined how mathematics supports artificial intelligence and quantum computing, adding that this creates ethical responsibilities for mathematicians worldwide.
He added, "At the University of Sharjah, we take pride in being an institution with a tangible social impact. Through our research institutes, groups, and partnerships, we address complex global challenges in areas such as artificial intelligence, sustainability, health, and smart technologies through interdisciplinary research aimed at developing sustainable solutions. Such an approach accelerates innovation and ensures that smart technologies are ethical and beneficial to humanity, while preserving resources for future generations. In this context, the University of Sharjah has achieved a significant milestone by ranking 26th globally, fourth in the Arab world, and first in the United Arab Emirates in the Times Higher Education Interdisciplinary Science Rankings 2026."
Across the two days, 150 researchers from Arab and international institutions presented 90 research papers. Sessions ran in parallel streams and covered algebra, geometry, pure and applied mathematics, partial differential equations, applied statistics, artificial intelligence, and related areas. The scientific programme also included poster presentations, giving early-career researchers further space to display their work.
The conference drew senior University of Sharjah leadership, including Professor Maamar Bettayeb, Vice Chancellor for Research and Graduate Studies, and Professor Nouar Tabet, Acting Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs and Dean of the College of Sciences. Several college deans, department heads, and faculty members also attended, reflecting the university’s support for mathematical sciences and their applications in the UAE and the wider region.
