Sharjah Cinema Days Celebrates Artistic Excellence With Over 5,000 Attendees

The recently concluded "Sharjah Cinema Days" initiative, which wrapped up its activities on Sunday, 3rd March, has been hailed as a significant success, underscoring the dynamic cultural landscape of Sharjah. Organized by the FANN Foundation - Media Discovery Platform, the event drew in an impressive crowd of over 5,000 attendees. Participants were treated to a diverse array of film screenings, workshops, entertainment, and musical performances, alongside engaging with various installation artworks. The venue for these enriching cultural exchanges was Buhais - the geopark in Sharjah.

Sheikha Jawaher bint Abdullah Al Qasimi, Director General of FANN Foundation and Sharjah International Film Festival (SIFF), reflected on the initiative's impact. She emphasized its pivotal role in fostering the local cultural scene by providing a platform for filmmakers, directors, and artists to showcase their talents and perspectives through various artistic mediums. According to Sheikha Jawaher, the initiative's triumph underscores the necessity for innovative platforms that support and nurture talent within the realms of cinema and visual and performing arts.

The closing day of "Sharjah Cinema Days" was marked by Bollywood-themed activities, captivating the audience with scenes from the iconic Indian musical romantic film "Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge," directed by Aditya Chopra. This celebration of Indian cinema was complemented by performances from musical groups inspired by Bollywood films.

Throughout the five-day event, visitors had the opportunity to watch an eclectic mix of films. Highlights included "Howl's Moving Castle" by Hayao Miyazaki and produced by Studio Ghibli, the Korean drama "Paper Flower," and the classic "Singin' In the Rain" directed by Gene Kelly and Stanley Donen. Additionally, a selection of Gulf short films was showcased, featuring titles such as "Mabrook ma Yaak," "A Policeman’s Story," "Shaaban 27," "Nour Shams," and "Our neighbor, Bouhamad."

The initiative also spotlighted seven art installations that showcased the creativity of artists and emerging talents. Notably, visual artist Ahlam Al-Bannai presented her work "Sustaining Minds," inspired by His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi's focus on people and investment in human potential. The "Arab Wood" collection by artist Ali Al Saadi reimagined iconic films like "Harry Potter," "La La Land," and "Aladdin" with an Arab perspective. Other notable works included "Emirates Nostalgia" by photographer Hamad Al Jasmi and "Lunar Legacy" by Aisha Al Ali and Hamda Al Marri, which celebrated human curiosity and exploration.

This blend of cinematic screenings and artistic expressions at "Sharjah Cinema Days" not only entertained but also inspired attendees, reinforcing Sharjah's status as a vibrant cultural hub in the UAE.
