Sharjah Charity International Provides AED 35.7M In Medical Assistance For Over 1,300 Cases In 2023
On World Health Day, observed annually on April 7th, Sharjah Charity International (SCI) unveiled its significant contribution to the healthcare sector in 2023. The organisation announced it had provided therapeutic assistance to 1,377 medical cases, with a total expenditure reaching AED35.7 million. This initiative underscores SCI's commitment to supporting patients who face financial hurdles in accessing necessary medical treatments.
Abdullah Sultan bin Khadim, the Executive Director of Sharjah Charitable Society, highlighted the organisation's efforts to broaden its public assistance scope. The strategic plan focuses on enhancing treatment and medication programs for patients by removing barriers that delay the provision of aid. This approach aims at ensuring patients receive timely treatment and support for their recovery.

The assistance program covered a wide array of medical conditions. Among the 1,377 cases supported, 356 involved surgical operations for critical diseases needing urgent intervention, including catheterization and vital organ transplants like heart, liver, marrow, and kidneys. Additionally, SCI's aid extended to 215 individuals battling chronic diseases requiring uninterrupted medication.
Cancer patients also received significant attention, with 153 cases of various types being supported. Furthermore, the program addressed the needs of 210 individuals suffering from kidney failure by providing essential treatment. In a bid to offer comprehensive healthcare support, SCI also covered medical expenses for 111 birth cases and sponsored fertility treatments such as fertilization and Intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) operations for couples facing infertility challenges.
SCI's humanitarian efforts went beyond direct medical assistance. The organisation played a pivotal role in settling the debts of 105 patients by collaborating with health institutions. This initiative was carried out after thorough case studies to ensure the beneficiaries' eligibility for financial aid. Additionally, SCI extended its support to 102 patients with disabilities and 81 individuals requiring eye care, demonstrating a holistic approach to healthcare assistance.
The extensive support provided by Sharjah Charity International in 2023 reflects its dedication to enhancing the well-being of individuals facing medical and financial challenges. By covering a broad spectrum of health issues and ensuring the swift implementation of aid, SCI has made a substantial impact on the lives of many, facilitating their journey towards recovery and better health.
