Sharjah Chamber Reviews Initiatives To Enhance Sustainable Economic Growth

The Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) recently held its eighth regular board meeting to assess the progress and achievements of its branches and subsidiary entities for the first quarter of 2024. This evaluation aligns with the chamber's operational plan and underscores its dedication to enhancing business growth, stimulating economic activity, and ensuring the private sector's sustainable performance. The meeting, chaired by Abdullah Sultan Al Owais, Chairman of the SCCI, took place at the chamber's headquarters.

During this gathering, the board adopted final communiqués from its previous year's meetings and reviewed the SCCI’s activities and programs from 2023, as well as upcoming events designed to bolster the emirate’s business community. Notable attendees included Sheikh Majid bin Faisal Al Qasimi, First Deputy Chairman of the Chamber, Walid Abdul Rahman Bukhatir, Second Deputy Chairman of the Chamber, and several key officials from the SCCI.

The board discussed various agenda items focusing on the support provided to entrepreneurs and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). This support aims to empower a new generation of business leaders, thereby injecting new vigor into Sharjah’s economy. Al Owais praised the SCCI's role in fostering a sustainable economy, diversifying export markets, and encouraging investment. He reaffirmed the chamber's commitment to sustainable economic growth in Sharjah, aligning with the "We the UAE 2031" Vision.

Furthermore, Al Owais highlighted the SCCI’s growth indicators for 2023 which align with its 2022-2024 strategy to support the business sector and promote sustainable economic practices. Mohammad Ahmed Amin Al Awadi, Director-General of the SCCI, discussed efforts to enhance institutional excellence and service standards for members. The chamber is adopting global best practices to facilitate collaboration between the private sector and government towards sustainable growth.

The meeting also underscored plans to develop various business sectors by leveraging Sharjah’s competitive advantages. It highlighted the chamber's support for local and international exhibitions and facilitating local exhibitors' participation in regional and international expos. The board commended Expo Centre Sharjah (ECS) for its competitive strategy aimed at positioning Sharjah as a key player in the global exhibition industry.

Additionally, discussions covered the success of the Sharjah Ramadan Festival and other shopping events sponsored by the SCCI. These festivals significantly boost the retail sector and support marketing activities with substantial patronage from shoppers across the UAE.

The board reviewed preparations for announcing winners of the Sharjah Excellence Award. This annual initiative promotes a culture of quality and institutional excellence within the private sector across the UAE and Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries. The award has seen notable advancements in scale and participation quality from Emirati and Gulf business communities, continuously refining its categories to meet international benchmarks for business excellence.
