Sharjah's Archaeological Geographic Information System Aims To Preserve Cultural Heritage At GITEX 2024

The Sharjah Archaeology Authority (SAA) has introduced the Archaeological Geographic Information System at GITEX Global 2024. This initiative, part of Sharjah Government's platform at the Dubai World Trade Centre, aims to preserve Sharjah's cultural heritage using cutting-edge technology. The system is a key step towards a sustainable digital future, reflecting the emirate's commitment to safeguarding its rich history.

The Archaeological Geographic Information System utilises advanced technologies like satellites, laser devices, and drones. These tools document archaeological sites and pinpoint their exact locations. This allows for the creation of a detailed 3D database for each site, ensuring efficient management and easy access to information.

Sharjah Launches New Heritage Preservation System

Eisa Yousif, Director General of SAA, highlighted the importance of protecting human heritage and understanding Sharjah’s cultural dimensions. He noted that preserving cultural heritage is central to the UAE's identity. It serves as a source of pride and inspiration for current and future generations. The project aligns with the vision of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi.

This system also enables experts to monitor archaeological sites regularly. It helps prevent damage from human activities or natural factors. Innovative tools within the system allow quick responses to threats, protecting sites from climate change or natural disasters.

Yousif further explained that this project demonstrates SAA's dedication to innovative strategies that raise global awareness about heritage protection. The system fosters collaboration between cultural and infrastructure sectors, facilitating knowledge exchange and enriching understanding.

Participation in GITEX Global 2024 underscores SAA's commitment to modern technology in preserving Sharjah's archaeological heritage. This event offers a platform to showcase initiatives that merge digital development with site preservation, fostering collaboration with local and international partners.

Collaboration Opportunities

The system serves as an effective platform for researchers and academics, providing access to comprehensive information on archaeological sites. This paves the way for in-depth studies that illuminate Sharjah’s rich history.

Through this initiative, Sharjah aims to enhance its leadership in cultural heritage preservation both locally and globally. By integrating advanced technology, it positions itself as a leader in this field.

The SAA’s efforts at GITEX Global 2024 highlight its role in adopting modern technologies for heritage preservation. The event facilitates collaboration with global technological institutions to develop sustainable solutions for archaeological site management.
