Sharjah Animation Conference 2025 Concludes After Four Days Of Insightful Discussions And Awards
The Sharjah Animation Conference (SAC 2025) recently concluded, drawing 5,600 attendees globally. Organised by the Sharjah Book Authority (SBA), it featured 74 industry leaders, including Disney animators and gaming pioneers from 18 countries. The event celebrated creative excellence with a $20,000 awards programme, recognising outstanding contributions in literary visual storytelling and culturally inspired children's animation concepts.
Key figures in character design shared insights into iconic scenes and advanced animation techniques. The conference explored adapting literary works into animated productions, offering unique learning opportunities. It also addressed institutional challenges like enhancing local production infrastructure and global collaboration strategies in content distribution.

The awards ceremony honoured influential figures in animation. A lifetime achievement award was posthumously given to Masami Suda, creator of "Dragon Ball," accepted by his wife Chuda Suda. Sandro Cleuzo received the SAC Ambassador award for advancing the conference's vision globally. Ahmed Arnaouty won the Book Trailer Award for his adaptation of "Dooq Dooq" by Shereen Sabbagh.
The Pitch the Project Award recognised creators designing animated series rooted in regional traditions for young audiences. Mohammed Jandali took top honours, while Abdalla Almunajad and Eslam Aboshady secured second and third places respectively for their culturally rich storytelling proposals.
Khoula Al Mujaini, Executive Director of SAC, highlighted the conference's success due to His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi's vision and Sheikha Bodour bint Sultan Al Qasimi's guidance. Al Mujaini stated, "SAC has become a true growing platform; a space where publishers, artists, industry leaders, and broadcasters meet, collaborate, and convert ideas into reality."
Al Mujaini emphasised the need for content creators to stay responsive to technological innovations in animation. She described SAC as a vital platform connecting aspiring animators with industry leaders for learning and international collaboration.
A Dynamic Platform for Creators
SAC 2025 hosted over 35 workshops and 29 discussions on illustration, scripting, digital technologies, and AI. The four-day event facilitated professional connections among content creators through networking events like an exclusive evening at Bait Alowal on Day 2.
Women played a significant role in discussions with female creators sharing reflections on impactful projects globally. The conference also featured curated film screenings celebrating animation's legacy and future across its four days.
Cultural Performances Enhance Experience
Attendees enjoyed live performances from Italy’s Florence Pops Orchestra during the closing ceremony. The orchestra performed soundtracks from animated films like Disney classics "The Lion King" and "Frozen," along with Studio Ghibli tributes featuring Joe Hisaishi’s scores from "Spirited Away" and "My Neighbour Totoro."
SAC 2025 offered a forward-looking perspective on animation's digital future while fostering creativity through cultural exchanges. It remains a pivotal event for industry professionals seeking collaboration opportunities within the region and beyond.
