Sharjah Chamber And PROCOMER Aim To Strengthen Trade Exhibition Participation
The Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) recently held discussions with a delegation from the Costa Rican Foreign Trade Promoter (PROCOMER). The focus was on enhancing mutual participation in trade exhibitions hosted by both countries. This initiative aims to boost investments, strengthen economic ties, and expand joint exports across various sectors.
During the meeting, Mohammed Ahmed Amin Al Awadi, Director-General of SCCI, and Mario Sáenz, Director of Exports at PROCOMER, explored ways to foster communication between business leaders. They discussed increasing investments and strengthening economic cooperation. Fatima Khalifa Al-Muqrab, Head of the International Relations Department at SCCI, along with other officials from both sides, attended the meeting.

Al Awadi highlighted that commercial cooperation prospects with Costa Rica are diverse due to the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) signed between the two nations. He noted that bilateral non-oil trade between the UAE and Costa Rica reached $65 million in 2023. This agreement is expected to further stimulate trade flows and unlock new opportunities for collaboration across various sectors.
The Sharjah Chamber invited the Costa Rican delegation to participate in the Emirates Perfumes and Oud Exhibition scheduled for October 2024. This event is organised by Expo Centre Sharjah with support from SCCI. The invitation underscores SCCI’s commitment to enhancing bilateral trade relations.
In return, the Costa Rican delegation invited SCCI to visit their stands at World of Coffee and GITEX exhibitions in Dubai. These events offer an opportunity to explore Costa Rican products showcased at international platforms.
Focus on Key Sectors
The Costa Rican delegation presented various opportunities and initiatives undertaken by PROCOMER. They focused on fields such as technology, gaming, Artificial Intelligence, and media. They also expressed aspirations to increase trade cooperation with Sharjah and establish partnerships that would enhance Costa Rican exports to the UAE, particularly in the food industry.
Al Awadi emphasised Sharjah's growth in key sectors like logistics, technology, and media. These align with Sharjah's strategic goals of attracting foreign investments, diversifying its economy, and promoting innovation and sustainability.
Commitment to Collaboration
At the end of the meeting, both sides reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening collaboration between business communities in Sharjah and Costa Rica. They urged businesses to capitalise on available opportunities in trade and investment fields. This collaboration aims to foster sustainable economic growth for both nations.
