Sharjah Airport Welcomes 4.2 Million Passengers In First Quarter Of 2024
Sharjah Airport has recently announced its performance metrics for the first quarter of 2024, showcasing significant growth and development. The airport welcomed over 4.2 million passengers, facilitated 26,473 flight movements, and handled more than 42,000 tonnes of cargo. These figures not only underscore Sharjah Airport's vital role in enhancing the travel experience but also its contribution to the economic and tourism sectors of the Emirate of Sharjah.
Ali Salim Al Midfa, Chairman of Sharjah Airport Authority (SAA), highlighted the airport's achievement of a 10 percent growth rate in passenger numbers compared to the previous year. This growth is a testament to the concerted efforts of SAA and its partners to position Sharjah Airport among the top five regional airports. Al Midfa expressed optimism about the future of air travel and passenger movement, especially with ongoing expansion projects aimed at increasing the airport's capacity to 25 million passengers annually by 2027.

The first quarter's success is attributed to an ambitious long-term strategy executed in collaboration with public and private sector partners. This strategy focuses on enhancing operational efficiency, service quality, and infrastructure development. March emerged as the busiest month for Sharjah Airport in terms of flight operations and cargo volume, with a record 9,127 flights and 17.7 thousand tons of cargo transported. Meanwhile, January saw the highest passenger traffic, with a total of 1,444,525 travelers. These statistics reflect Sharjah Airport's growing importance as a hub for commercial growth and its role in connecting tourist destinations worldwide.
