Sharjah Airport And Air Arabia Introduce Direct Flights To The Maldives For Enhanced Travel Options

Sharjah Airport and Air Arabia marked a significant achievement on 27th October 2024 with the launch of the first direct flight from Sharjah to the Maldives. This event underscores Sharjah's growing influence in global travel and tourism. The inaugural ceremony was attended by Hassaan Waheed, Deputy Ambassador of the Republic of Maldives to the UAE, along with officials from Sharjah Airport Authority (SAA) and Air Arabia.

Air Arabia has introduced daily flights between Sharjah Airport and Velana International Airport in Malé, Maldives, utilising Airbus A320 aircraft. Ali Salim Al Midfa, Chairman of Sharjah Airport Authority, expressed that this new route is a testament to their commitment to expanding international destinations. He stated, "Sharjah Airport continues to expand its presence on the international travel map, and we are committed to adding new direct destinations for airlines operating through the airport."

Direct Flights from Sharjah to Maldives Launched

The Maldives is renowned as a top tourist destination worldwide. This motivated Sharjah Airport to enhance services for passengers travelling directly to these islands. Al Midfa highlighted that this route strengthens aviation ties in the region and boosts economic and tourism links between the UAE and the Maldives. It also opens avenues for economic cooperation between both nations.

Adel Al Ali, Group Chief Executive Officer of Air Arabia, shared his excitement about this development. He remarked, "The inaugural flight to the Maldives represents an exciting new chapter in our network expansion. We are excited to offer our customers direct access to this tropical paradise." This addition aligns with Air Arabia's mission to provide affordable air travel while expanding destination choices globally.

The strategic plan of Sharjah Airport Authority aims at increasing passenger capacity to 25 million by attracting more international airlines and expanding flight networks through strategic partnerships. The focus is on enhancing services for both airlines and passengers by integrating advanced technologies and continuously developing projects. These efforts aim to deliver world-class services ensuring a safe and seamless travel experience.
