Shaqra Pepper Festival Attracts Thousands, Focuses On Agricultural Advancement

The fourth Shaqra Pepper Festival, organised by the National Company for Agricultural Services with various government bodies, has attracted over 70,000 visitors since its start on July 28. Agricultural experts led workshops to boost pepper cultivation and production in the region. These efforts aim to support related manufacturing industries, enhance national food security, and increase the agricultural sector's GDP contribution.

A workshop titled "Strategies for Preparing the Land for Pepper Cultivation in Shaqra" covered several crucial topics. It highlighted the importance of pepper to the Saudi market and discussed optimal environmental conditions for its growth. Soil analysis and preparation were also key points, including soil testing and quality evaluation. The workshop also explored ways to improve soil before planting using fertilizers and adjusting acidity levels.

Another workshop, "Manufacturing Industries and Their Role in Enhancing the Added Value of the Pepper Plant," examined various processing industries that utilise pepper. The discussion emphasised their significance to sustainable development. This session aimed to show how these industries can add value to the pepper plant, contributing to economic growth.

The workshop "Proper Agricultural Practices for Pepper Crop in Shaqra from Planting to Harvest" focused on improving both the quantity and quality of pepper crops. It addressed challenges posed by climate change and covered integrated pest management techniques. Fertilisation methods for pepper crops were also discussed, along with optimal soil preparation techniques for planting seedlings.

Irrigation methods and efficient water usage were other critical topics covered in this workshop. Experts shared best practices for harvesting pepper crops and preparing them for marketing. These practices aim to ensure high-quality produce reaches consumers while maintaining sustainable farming methods.
