UAE's Shakhboot Bin Nahyan Champions Renewable Energy Deployment In Africa

In a significant gathering at the 14th meeting of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) Assembly in Abu Dhabi, key figures convened to deliberate on the future of renewable energy in Africa. Among the attendees were Sheikh Shakhboot bin Nahyan Al Nahyan, Minister of State, Dr. Jimmy Gasore, the Minister of Infrastructure for Rwanda, Davis Chirchir, the Cabinet Secretary for Energy and Petroleum of Kenya, and Francesco La Camera, Director-General of IRENA. This session, themed ‘Outcome of COP28: Infrastructure, Policies and Skills for Tripling Renewables and Accelerating the Energy Transition’, aimed to build on the momentum from COP28, where over 120 countries backed a significant commitment to renewable energy and energy efficiency.

Sheikh Shakhboot bin Nahyan Al Nahyan took this opportunity to spotlight the UAE's efforts in bolstering renewable energy initiatives across Africa. He underscored the importance of international cooperation to meet the continent's energy needs effectively. "The robust relationship between the UAE and Africa is reflected in our partnerships and development projects," he stated, highlighting the UAE's commitment to Africa's prosperity through substantial investments in critical infrastructure projects. These projects not only aim to share the UAE’s renewable energy expertise but also seek to foster economic and human development across the continent.

The Minister emphasized the UAE's role as an integral part of the global community, acknowledging the responsibility that comes with it. He reiterated the nation's dedication to producing real-world solutions that combat climate change. Furthermore, Sheikh Shakhboot called for enhanced collaboration among international partners to amplify investments in crucial sectors and exchange expertise and technology. This collaborative effort is essential for unlocking Africa’s vast renewable energy potential and driving sustainable development forward.
