SFDA Organises Forum To Raise Awareness On Antimicrobial Resistance In Saudi Arabia
The Saudi Food and Drug Authority (SFDA), alongside the Waey Association for Community Health, hosted a scientific forum in Riyadh. Titled "Knowledge is a Responsibility: Towards National Awareness to Reduce Antimicrobial Resistance," the event aimed to increase understanding of antimicrobial resistance (AMR). Representatives from various government bodies and health associations attended the forum.
During the forum, several sessions and workshops were held to address AMR's current state and community needs. The discussions emphasised collaboration between government sectors and health awareness groups. Enhancing partnerships was seen as crucial for achieving significant impact in combating AMR.

The event also highlighted how artificial intelligence can support awareness efforts about the dangers of antimicrobial resistance. Challenges facing awareness initiatives were discussed, along with research papers published by the SFDA related to these themes. An interactive workshop presented a model for a joint awareness program, encouraging experience exchange and practical solution development.
In conjunction with the forum, the SFDA organised a three-day training program targeting several government agencies involved in AMR. This program focused on equipping participants with knowledge about advanced equipment and technologies essential for tackling AMR effectively.
AMR poses a global health threat that necessitates coordinated national efforts involving government agencies, non-profit organisations, and communities. The forum included participants from the Ministry of Health, Public Health Authority (Weqaya), National Center for Prevention and Control of Plants Pests and Animal Diseases (Weqaa Center), Waey Association for Community Health, Health Promotion Society, among other relevant health associations.
Outcomes and Recommendations
The forum concluded with a comprehensive presentation of results and final recommendations. These aim to provide a clear roadmap for enhancing community awareness and supporting all partners' efforts in addressing AMR issues. The goal is to ensure effective collaboration across sectors to combat this pressing health challenge.
