SFDA Enhances Global Health Regulation Through International Cooperation

Riyadh, SPA – In a significant move towards bolstering international regulatory systems, Dr. Hisham bin Saad Aljadhey, the CEO of the Saudi Food and Drug Authority (SFDA), embarked on a pivotal visit to the Health Sciences Authority of Singapore (HSA). This visit marks a cornerstone in fostering collaboration and integration between the two entities, with a focus on medicines, innovative treatments, and medical devices.

During his visit, Dr. Aljadhey engaged in fruitful discussions with Dr. Choong May Ling, CEO of HSA. The dialogue revolved around various topics of mutual interest, aiming to enhance the regulatory framework on an international scale. A highlight of the meeting was Dr. Ling's commendation of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for attaining maturity level four (ML4) in medicines and vaccines regulation. This achievement represents the highest classification level achievable, underscoring the Kingdom's leadership in this domain. Dr. Ling also expressed Singapore's keen interest in leveraging the SFDA's expertise to advance their own regulatory capabilities.

SFDA Boosts Global Health Ties

Furthermore, Dr. Aljadhey's visit extended to meetings with several key players in food control, including representatives from the China National Center for Food Safety Risk Assessment (CFSA), The German Federal Institute for Risk Assessment (BfR), and the New Zealand Ministry for Primary Industries. These discussions focused on the latest developments in food safety and explored avenues for heightened cooperation with these international bodies.

The series of meetings were part of the SFDA's active participation in the 5th Annual Meeting of International Heads of Food Agencies Forum (IHFAF), hosted by Singapore from 16 to 20 April. This forum served as a platform for global leaders in food regulation to share insights, challenges, and strategies to ensure food safety across borders.

This collaborative endeavor not only highlights the SFDA's commitment to enhancing global health standards but also positions Saudi Arabia as a key player in shaping the future of international regulatory practices. Through such partnerships, the SFDA aims to contribute significantly to the development of a robust regulatory system that safeguards public health worldwide.
