SFDA And AAMI Join Forces To Enhance Medical Device Standards And Innovation

The Saudi Food and Drug Authority (SFDA) has entered into a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation (AAMI). This agreement aims to enhance collaboration in medical devices, focusing on advanced technologies like artificial intelligence and biotechnology for diagnosis and treatment.

A delegation from AAMI, led by board chairman Walt Rosebrough, visited the SFDA headquarters in Riyadh. They reviewed SFDA's efforts in the medical devices sector and engaged with several officials. The visit highlighted the importance of international cooperation in advancing medical technology.

SFDA and AAMI Collaborate on Device Standards

The MoU was signed by SFDA Executive Vice President for the Medical Devices Sector Eng. Ali Al-Dalaan and AAMI Chief Learning and Development Officer Robert Burroughs. It outlines various areas of cooperation, including developing medical device standards, exchanging technical information, and providing expert consultations.

Both organizations will coordinate educational programs, joint events, and participation in international technical committees. This collaboration is expected to foster innovation and improve standards within the medical device industry.

AAMI is recognized globally for developing national and international consensus standards on medical devices. It serves as a trusted source for scientific information and training, applying global best practices to advance the industry. This partnership aligns with SFDA's goals to collaborate internationally to develop policies and build technical capabilities.

The agreement supports the objectives of the Health Sector Transformation Program, a key initiative under Saudi Vision 2030. By working together, both organizations aim to enhance healthcare services through improved medical device standards and innovative technologies.
