SFD Inaugurates $25 Million Potable Water Supply Project In Tanzania's Same And Mwanga Districts
The Saudi Fund for Development (SFD) has played a significant role in Tanzania's development by financing various projects. Since 1987, the SFD has supported eight initiatives with concessional loans exceeding $92 million. These projects span sectors like transportation, water, agriculture, and social infrastructure, aiming to boost social and economic growth in Tanzania.
Recently, the SFD participated in the inauguration of a new drinking water supply project for Same and Mwanga Districts in Tanzania. This event was attended by Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, President of Tanzania, alongside Mohammed bin Adhahan Alshammari from the SFD. The project received funding through a $25 million concessional loan from the SFD.

The project focuses on creating an extensive drinking water transmission network. This includes over 160 kilometers of main pipelines and constructing a 7,500-cubic-meter reservoir. These efforts aim to provide reliable water access to households across 16 villages in Tanzania.
In addition to the main reservoir, three smaller reservoirs are being built in Same town. The initiative also involves implementing household connections to ensure that various villages have sufficient drinking water supply. This development is crucial for enhancing water availability and quality.
This project is part of broader efforts to improve public health by reducing waterborne diseases. By ensuring sustainable water security, it contributes significantly to both urban and rural communities' well-being. Access to clean drinking water is vital for maintaining good health standards.
The inauguration ceremony was also attended by Jumaa Hamidu Aweso, Tanzania's Minister of Water, and Saudi Ambassador Yahya bin Ahmed Okeish. Their presence highlighted the importance of international cooperation in achieving sustainable development goals.
This initiative aligns with global efforts to enhance living conditions through improved infrastructure. By addressing essential needs like clean water access, such projects play a pivotal role in fostering community resilience and prosperity.
