Saudi Fund For Development Inaugurates New Electricity And Water Station In Bahrain
The Housing City of Al-Hidd in Bahrain recently saw the inauguration of a new electricity station and a water distribution facility. These projects, funded by grants from Saudi Arabia, aim to enhance essential services for residents. The electricity station, costing nearly SAR250 million, supplies 220 kV power through three substations with a capacity of 48 megavolt-amperes (MVA) at 66 kV.
The water distribution station, valued at approximately SAR70 million, includes four pumps and two reinforced concrete ground tanks with a total capacity of 2.34 million gallons. This development aims to improve energy and water services in the area. The ceremony was attended by Sheikh Khalid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, Deputy Prime Minister of Bahrain; Sultan Abdulrahman Al-Marshad, CEO of the Saudi Fund for Development (SFD); and Eng. Kamal bin Ahmed Mohammed, President of Bahrain's Electricity and Water Authority (EWA).

Sheikh Khalid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa highlighted the significance of these projects in advancing infrastructure sectors. He noted that Bahrain's Electricity and Water Authority is committed to enhancing electricity infrastructure across all regions. This commitment ensures the sustainability of vital services and supports various housing and urban development initiatives.
Sultan Abdulrahman Al-Marshad praised the enduring partnership between SFD and Bahrain, which began in 1976. He stated that this project is part of SFD's ongoing support for developmental initiatives in Bahrain through Saudi grants. "This project is part of SFD's support for numerous developmental initiatives in Bahrain," he remarked.
The Saudi Fund for Development has been collaborating with Bahrain for 48 years, financing 30 developmental projects across energy, transportation, and social infrastructure sectors. These efforts are supported by development loans and grants from Saudi Arabia, contributing to sustainable growth opportunities in Bahrain.
Al-Marshad emphasized that this collaboration reaffirms SFD's commitment to sustainable development in Bahrain. "The fund's commitment to sustainable development in the country," he added, highlighting the historical partnership between the two nations.
The electricity station features high-voltage cables and various civil, mechanical, electrical, and electronic works. It includes operational control systems that ensure efficient power distribution to housing units. Meanwhile, the water distribution station enhances water supply capabilities with its advanced infrastructure.
This initiative marks a significant step forward in improving core infrastructure sectors in Bahrain. It reflects both countries' dedication to fostering long-term development through strategic investments in essential services.
