Saudi Fund For Development Inaugurates Two Major University Projects In Indonesia
The Saudi Fund for Development (SFD) is investing over $88 million in two university projects in Indonesia. These initiatives aim to enhance educational infrastructure and capacity. Sultan Al-Marshad, CEO of SFD, attended the inauguration of these projects at Jakarta State University and Maulana Malik Ibrahim Malang State University, demonstrating SFD's commitment to supporting education in Indonesia.
The Jakarta State University Development Project, now in its second phase, benefits from more than $32.7 million from the SFD. This funding will facilitate the construction of four 10-story buildings, a grand mosque, and a social development centre spanning about 44,000 square meters. These additions are expected to boost student capacity from 28,000 to 40,000.

In East Java, the Maulana Malik Ibrahim Malang State University project also enters its second phase with over $55.5 million in SFD funding. The project includes five new buildings equipped with solar energy systems. New faculties for engineering, pharmacy, and medicine will be established alongside a research centre and an Islamic studies centre.
The inauguration was attended by notable figures such as Dr. Brian Yuliarto, Indonesia's Minister of Higher Education; Dr. Qamaruddin, Rector of Jakarta State University; and Faisal Al-Amoudi, Saudi Ambassador to Indonesia. Their presence underscored the significance of these developments for Indonesia's educational landscape.
Since 1976, the SFD has supported 12 projects in Indonesia across sectors like agriculture and health through concessional loans exceeding $396 million. These efforts have played a crucial role in fostering social development and sustainable economic growth within the country.
At Maulana Malik Ibrahim Malang State University, the project also involves upgrading specialised facilities and providing advanced equipment and technologies. A university housing complex covering around 42,000 square meters is part of this comprehensive development plan.
The SFD's ongoing contributions highlight its dedication to enhancing educational opportunities in Indonesia while promoting sustainable practices through renewable energy integration in university facilities.
