SEWA Confirms Readiness To Tackle Weather Effects With Advanced Response Teams

Sharjah Electricity, Water and Gas Authority (SEWA) has demonstrated its comprehensive preparedness to tackle any adverse effects of weather conditions, equipped with proficient teams and advanced technology. From 15th to 29th April, SEWA's dedicated teams addressed over 6,319 reports across Sharjah and its regions, showcasing their commitment to maintaining electrical services under challenging weather conditions. The Authority undertook extensive repair and maintenance operations across the central region, electrical stations, and transformers to rectify electrical faults induced by these exceptional weather conditions.

Ahmed Al Bass, Deputy Director of the Electricity Distribution Department, lauded the continuous efforts of emergency teams in Sharjah. These teams worked tirelessly to address reports and restore power in affected locales. Their efforts culminated in the restoration of electrical service to more than 1,300 distribution substations and the repair of 376 subscribers' cables. This swift action significantly reduced the impact of the weather event across the regions in a remarkably short period.

In Kalba, Youssef Al Hammadi, Director of the Kalba Administration, reported that the SEWA emergency department received approximately 820 reports from 16th to 30th April. The team responded promptly through various communication channels, including a dedicated call centre (991), ensuring minimal disruption to services. Saud Abdulaziz, Director of the Khorfakkan Administration, highlighted the quick and effective response of work teams in managing the 299 reports received in Khorfakkan. The teams adhered to the highest operational standards to minimise downtime for residents.

Comprehensive Maintenance and Upgrades

Khalifa Al Tunaiji, Director of the Central Region Administration, detailed the extensive post-depression emergency maintenance efforts. These included thorough inspections of underground cables spanning 275,000 metres across different locations and maintenance work on overhead lines covering 65,000 meters. The operations also featured the installation and replacement of 45 aerial transformers, maintenance of 240 distribution substations, construction and installation of 25 new distribution substations, maintenance of 180 RMUs (Ring Main Units), and the repair and installation of 360 11 KV poles.

The collective efforts of SEWA's emergency response teams across Sharjah and its regions underscore the Authority's commitment to ensuring uninterrupted electrical services. Through strategic planning, rapid response, and extensive maintenance operations, SEWA effectively mitigates the impact of adverse weather conditions on its electrical infrastructure, demonstrating resilience and dedication to serving its communities.
