SEWA Recognised Globally For Contributions To Sustainability And Reforestation
Sharjah Electricity, Water and Gas Authority (SEWA) has been recognised by the international organisation "PrintReleaf Standard" for its significant contributions to sustainable development and environmental preservation. This recognition was awarded through SEWA's Services and Technical Support Department for Information and Communication Technology.
In collaboration with Xerox Emirates, SEWA launched an initiative to participate in a global reforestation programme endorsed by PrintReleaf Standard. This programme involves planting trees equivalent to the number of papers printed. From 1st January to 31st May 2024, SEWA successfully planted 115 trees as part of this initiative.

Majid Huraimel Al Shamsi, Director of SEWA General Department of Institutional Support, received the certificate from Mahmoud Al Yahya, General Manager of Xerox UAE, on behalf of PrintReleaf Standard. Al Shamsi highlighted that this certification underscores SEWA's dedication to environmental conservation and its commitment to social responsibility.
Al Shamsi emphasised that obtaining this international certificate is a testament to SEWA's ongoing efforts towards achieving positive outcomes aligned with its strategic plan focused on sustainable development. He noted that these efforts are in line with the vision and directives of H.H. Dr. Sheikh Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah.
Ahmed Hussein Abdullah Al Hammadi, Head of the Services and Technical Support Department at SEWA's Information and Communication Technology Department, explained that participating in this global reforestation initiative helps reduce carbon emissions. The PrintReleaf Standard programme relies on afforestation in various regions worldwide based on the number of papers used in printing.
Electronic Transformation
Al Hammadi added that SEWA is actively working towards electronic transformation by reducing paper consumption within the work environment. The authority educates employees about the importance of minimising paper use and the environmental impact of printers. Additionally, SEWA participates in initiatives aimed at preserving the environment until it achieves zero paper usage.
This recognition from PrintReleaf Standard highlights SEWA's commitment to environmental sustainability through practical actions such as tree planting and reducing paper consumption. These efforts contribute significantly to global reforestation and carbon emission reduction.
