SEWA Invests Dh20 Million In Central Region Energy Projects
The Sharjah Electricity, Water and Gas Authority (SEWA) has embarked on a significant project to bolster the central region's electricity infrastructure, with a commitment of more than Dh20 million invested in the first six months of the year. This initiative is set to enhance the reliability and sustainability of electricity services across various sectors, including commercial, industrial, agricultural, residential, and governmental spaces.
A major component of this upgrade involves the replacement of overhead lines with underground cables across a 35 km stretch. This move is part of a broader strategy to improve network stability and service quality throughout the region. By transitioning to underground cabling, SEWA aims to provide more reliable and uninterrupted power supply to its customers.

Khalifa Mohammed Al Tunaiji, the Director of the Central Region Department at SEWA, highlighted that this project is in direct response to the directives issued by His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah. The aim is to ensure the delivery of high-quality services throughout the Emirate of Sharjah, reflecting the leadership's commitment to the welfare and development of the region.
The project's scope includes the installation of high-voltage cables extending for 97.74 km and low-voltage cables for an additional 5.54 km. This expansion is critical to meeting the growing energy demands of the central region and is a key step towards enhancing the overall service sustainability.
Al Tunaiji further emphasized the significance of these improvements, stating, "The ongoing developments in energy projects align with the directives of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, to ensure the provision of top-tier services across all areas of the Emirate of Sharjah." This statement underscores the strategic importance of the project in fulfilling the vision of Sharjah's ruler to improve the quality of life for its residents through enhanced infrastructure and services.
SEWA's ambitious project to upgrade the electricity network in the central region represents a crucial step forward in improving energy infrastructure. By investing over AED20 million in the first half of the year, SEWA is significantly enhancing the sustainability and reliability of electrical services, which is expected to have a positive impact on various sectors across the Emirate of Sharjah. This initiative not only aligns with the vision of Sharjah's ruler but also sets a benchmark for future developments in the region's energy sector.
